Peoria’s renowned Creve Coeur Club has given a $5,000 contribution to the proposed Peoria Riverfront Museum project. The donation represents proceeds from the annual George Washington Banquet held in July with guest speaker Mayor Richard M. Daley of Chicago. 2008 marked the 110th annual banquet, making it one of the nation’s oldest continuous community events celebrating the first President.
The contribution will go towards the most important economic development project in our region. This $136 million investment on the central block of Peoria’s downtown will include the Peoria Riverfront Museum, The Caterpillar Experience, green spaces and retail and commercial development.
For more than 114 years, the Creve Coeur Club has been known for their efforts to “promote the business interests of the City of Peoria and the social enjoyment of the members,” as promised in their first charger. Organized in 1894, today the club now counts a membership approaching 400 of the area’s most prominent citizens.
